Your school's filtering service blocks a number of categories of Internet web sites that
your local school authorities have generally deemed inappropriate. Included among these
categories are sites that are obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit, which the
Federal Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requires to be blocked in order for
your school to receive certain federal funding. CIPA, however, allows such sexually
explicit sites to be unblocked in certain limited circumstances. A password, therefore,
has been provided to your school district with the understanding that a password user
is (i) 17 years of age or older (ii) an administrator, supervisor, or other person
authorized to disable the school's blocking or filtering technology; and (iii) not
disabling the blocking or filtering technology to enable access to visual depictions
that are obscene or child pornography, unless it is for a bona fide research or other
lawful purpose as determined by your local community. You also may not disable the
blocking or filtering technology to show or enable a minor to access, under any
circumstances, child pornography or other visual depictions that are obscene or depict
a sexual act or sexual contact that lacks serious literary, artistic, political or
scientific value as to minors. Finally, you should understand that a record of the
internet web sites visited during your Authorized Override session may be sent to
the person(s) or school authority who is involved in disseminating passwords for your
school and/or school district.
